i read american rust as part of the library thing early reviewer program. i found it to be very well written and i enjoyed the way the author put me inside each character's head. i also liked the way each character "sounded" different...one was more stream of consciousness, while another was less so...my point being that the author was successful in portraying each character differently...the switches seemed effortless. i also thought mr. meyer did a great job of evoking the time and place of his novel, as a sense of decay and depression permeated most every scene, indicative of the towns the characters inhabited. it was a painful read, but a good one.
